| PHILOSOPHY |
The Kentwood Baseball program isn't as much about winning games as it is about helping boys grow into men who have positive characteristics that include discipline, personal responsibility, thoughtfulness, and a positive mental attitude.
We expect our athletes to represent Kentwood High School in the very best way possible. Behavior on and off the field needs to be above expectations. We want our athletes to model behavior we can always be proud of. We do our best to promote good citizenship and responsible behavior at all times.
Our coaching staff firmly believes that playing baseball is a privilege and our players earn the right to represent our school. We ask individuals to work hard and to give of themselves for the good of the team, but to not lose sight of overall priorities on: 1) family and faith, 2) academics, and then 3) athletics. The expectation is that positive characteristics and behaviors be present on and off the field, in and out of school, and carried forward through life.

ACTIVITY CODE |
We will strictly enforce the athletic/activities code of Kentwood High School. Players are expected to follow the code!
| COMMUNICATION |
Players are welcome to talk to coaches about their concerns or problems (baseball related or otherwise). The door is open to all players at all times. Parents should encourage your son to talk to their coach if you feel they would benefit from the experience. Coaches will do their best to be good listeners and give appropriate feedback. Open communication usually helps both parties have a better understanding of the concerns.
Parents are also welcome to make appointments to talk to coaches about issues they may have. The only topic not open to discussion would be game playing time given to an athlete. Game playing time is something the athlete should talk to the coach about if they have a concern. Coaches will be glad to talk about any other topics. We want your son’s experience to be a positive one and communication between player/parent and coach can often lead to a more fulfilling experience.

LETTERING AND AWARDS |
1) To earn a varsity letter, a player should have participated in at least one-third of the total number of innings played by the varsity team. 2) Coaches will have the option of lettering an individual who does not meet the criteria as set forth in Number 1. Coaches will try to be as objective as possible, when making this decision. 3) Special awards will be voted on by the team (such as Most Improved, MVP, and Most inspirational).

MEDICAL CONDITIONS/CONCERNS |
Coaches should be made aware of any medical conditions/injuries that a player may have. The athlete and/or parent need to communicate this information to the coach.
If an athlete sees a doctor for any reason, a medical release form/note from the doctor must be given to the coach before the athlete will be able to resume participation.

RAINOUTS AND SCHEDULE CHANGES |
Weather is often a problem for Spring Sports. Games and practices may be changed depending on the weather. Players and parents need to be flexible concerning changes that may be made. We know it is an inconvenience, but we also know its part of the deal if you play baseball in Washington.
Parents can check the home page of this web site on game days for information on rainout status . |

COACHING STAFF |
The coaching staff at Kentwood High School prides itself in doing the best possible job it can. We continue to learn and stay on top of the game by attending clinics/seminars, reading books/articles, watching videos, and talking with others in the baseball profession. We believe it is our job to stay current and pass information on to your kids. We also promote our athletes so they can have the opportunities past high school, if that’s what the player wants. The player needs to communicate their wishes to the coaching staff so we can assist the athlete. Our staff has a lot of baseball experience, and I feel we are very fortunate to have such qualified coaches working with our players. Some of our coaches have dedicated their time and the program would not be as strong without their dedication. We are fortunate to have such good people/coaches working with our athletes. If you can find the time, please thank our assistant coaches for the good work they do with your son.
